
Renato Wiedemann began studying the violin at the age of eight in Birsfelden with Dölf Zinsstag. After three years, he continued his studies at the Basel Music School with Vincent Providoli and later joined Emilie Haudenschild's violin class. From 2012 to 2015, he pursued his bachelor's degree at the Lucerne School of Music under Prof. Sebastian Hamann, receiving additional guidance from Giuliano Carmignola. In October 2015, he moved to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HfMT) in Hamburg to study with Prof. Christoph Schickedanz, completing his Master’s in Performance in February 2019. While at the HfMT, Renato also taught music theory and violin as part of refugee assistance programs. From September 2019 to July 2021, he deepened his studies at the Lucerne School of Music under Igor Karsko and Clemens Heil, earning a second Master’s degree in Solo Performance with a minor in conducting.
In 2015, he was awarded a scholarship from the Friedl Wald Foundation in Basel. Renato served as concertmaster of the Junge Sinfoniker Basel until June 2012 and was a member of the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra (SJSO) until 2014.
From 2017 to 2019 he played with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and, in 2019, with the Nuremberg State Philharmonic. He is a co-founder of the Steiner Trio Basel and the Linden Quartet. Since August 2023, he has been teaching at the Basel Music Academy and is the artistic co-director of the Art Classics Basel Chamber Music Festival, alongside violinist Susanne Mathé.
Renato made his solo debut in 2012 in Basel and Reinach, performing Louis Spohr's Violin Concerto No. 8 "Gesangszenen." That same year, he performed Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, KV 219, in Ribeirão Preto and Araraquara (Brazil). Since then, he has appeared as a soloist in Switzerland and Brazil, including in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, and São Carlos, performing works such as Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Saint-Saëns’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G minor, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto Op. 129 with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra at the KKL Lucerne.
Renato plays a violin crafted by the Neapolitan luthier Nicolò Gagliano, dating from 1750.
